Shown in the first picture is a preliminary sketch of the Thunen Entrance that inspired the style that the designers ended up choosing. The rest of the house follows the same style, with arched beams visible in many of the other rooms. The man of the house had a fascinating hobby- gliding in sailplanes.
On nice days he loved being towed up into the air in a glider behind an airplane, and being released high in the open blue sky. As an avid glider, Mr. Thunen was drawn to the open feel of the living area that the timbers provided.
