The Pool House
A building needs a purpose. The more articulate the purpose, the better. This pool house was constructed primarily to give autistic children a place to unwind, since autistic children love water and find it very therapeutic. |
The process of designing the the modern stairway and balcony, along with the design of the lane trusses was made more exciting since it was guided the whole while by this overarching purpose. |
Signage at Timberline Lodge
A person knows old history when they see it. One can almost relive the lives of bygone artisans, architects, planners and tradesmen by touring structures which have been built by them.
|
Our designer here at Arrow Timber had always admired Timberline Lodge so he was especially relieved when the forest service engineer approved his suggestion to eliminate the unsightly bright metal clips that had been originally planned in exchange for more traditional mortise and tenon joinery even though it added many hours of labor! Perhaps the picture published in our local newspaper best sums up the feelings of teamwork and exuberance we experienced when installing the cupola at the peak of the structure 40 feet in the air ... At last! We did it! |

The Camas Tree Fort
"An Old Mining Cabin. I'm trying to replicate an Old Mining Cabin." These were the marching orders given to me by this wealthy client. Keep in mind, this project started out to be just some Timber Beam accents combined with traditional stick-framed carpentry. But-After touring one of our past projects, the scope of work changed radically. The mission had become 50 times bigger. So we set out to replicate an Old Mining Cabin, albeit on a grander scale. The access road to this man-cave also mimicked a mining trail. Steep. Windy. Narrow. |
Getting these Mammoth sized trusses to the site was quite the experience! We seriously thought about using his helicopter. But that's another story. I can tell it to you personally sometime. This "Tree Fort" as the owner likes to say is undoubtedly the most massive project of its kind. The man-cave functions as Helicopter/Ferrari parking garage, an entertainment room, a bar, and more. The owner of requested that a model train with train tracks running the perimeter of the man cave be installed! This project serves to show that the child never grows out of a person. |
